Creek County Relief Efforts

Taken 1/2 mile west of Mannford.

The Creek County relief efforts have kept us very busy at the Tulsa SPCA.  A lot of people have lost everything in the fires and many have their families, including the furry members, but no home to return to. The Tulsa SPCA went into action in collecting items for the animals and taking in homeless pets. This effort started with the help of one of our volunteers, Kristen Tallent, who helped us bring theMobileAdoptionCenter, MAC, to the Drysdale’s parking lot and our continuous relationship with the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals (OAA) helping us know where the need is the most for delivering items and taking in furry fire victims. From that point on we have been off and running and plan to continue until everyone in Creek County is back on their feet.   We will update our website, Facebook page, and tweets as we move forward in helping our neighbors in Creek County.  [Read more]

Congratulations to Tim Geen, our Cruelty Investigator

The compassion Tim’s shows all the pets he helps.

Congratulations and a special thanks to Tim Geen, who has been our cruelty investigator for a full year now!  Cruelty investigations are a high priority at Tulsa SPCA.  Tim is one of the few full time investigators in this area.  Sadly, there are a lot of cruelty complaints that require investigation.  In Tim’s first year alone, he investigated 794 cruelty complaints.

We are grateful to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®, which in recognition of the valuable work of the Tulsa SPCA, gave us a $10,000 grant to help us fund our cruelty investigator position plus funds to send him to the National Animal Cruelty Training Seminar for additional training.  The grant from the ASPCA is one of the ways we receive support for our work to investigate and bring justice for animal cruelty victims in our community.

Because the Tulsa SPCA is not affiliated with ASPCA or any national organizations and we do not receive any government funds, we must rely on the generosity of individual, corporate and foundation donors and grant funds.

Tulsa Run – October 27, 2012 – Another opportunity to support the Tulsa SPCA

The Tulsa Run is the oldest and largest run in Oklahoma held on the last Saturday every October. An owned and operated event of the Tulsa Sports Commission, the Tulsa Run attracts runners of all ages and levels from across the nation.

A new opportunity is available this year to increase the Tulsa Run’s effect on the local community.  When registering for the Tulsa Run, at the time of check out, each participant has the ability to donate to the Tulsa SPCA. Plus, the Tulsa Sports Commission will match these donations up to $5.  For more information about the Tulsa Run, go to:  http://www.tulsasports.org/tulsarun/general/1269/race-info

Donations

Each donation is a Gift of Caring and Kindness.  The Tulsa SPCA depends exclusively on contributions from the public and proceeds from our fundraising efforts and grant applications to carry out our daily mission of rescue, rehabilitation and finding homes for the dogs and cats given a second chance in life. The Tulsa SPCA is a non-profit organization and your donations are tax deductible. … [Read More...]
