100 Years and Counting…

1913

The Tulsa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is founded by a group of Tulsa citizens concerned about homeless dogs and cats who also wanted to protect against abuse of draft animals used to do heavy work on farms, in mines and on oil fields.

1931

The structure that houses the current shelter was built.

1946

The land where the current shelter and facilities reside was donated by H.O. McClure, the founding president of the Fourth National Bank of Tulsa.

1949

The Tulsa SPCA was incorporated as a non-profit organization and since that time has been governed by a board of directors.

1987-1988

Milly Finley joined the board, began the estate planning drive, and ushered in a new era of volunteer recruitment, forward-thinking strategy, and building repair and maintenance.

A new roof was put on the current building.

1989

The Tulsa SPCA Auxiliary was formed when volunteers were needed to work the booth at the Tulsa State Fair.

1991

Hired a cruelty investigator, the first and only in Oklahoma.

1992

The foster pet, pet therapy and dog training programs were developed.

1993

A new van was purchased from an insurance policy left to the Tulsa SPCA.

Used vet equipment was purchased and a new vet program was developed.

1994

The current vet clinic was built and parking lot was paved.

2005

The Mobile Adoption Center was launched.

2013

Tulsa SPCA celebrates its 100th anniversary!

2017

Milestone! More than 1,000 animals adopted this year.

2018

Our mission is updated: Our mission is to improve the lives of dogs and cats, and their human companions.

Remodeled Cattery opens in original shelter building with separate kitten and cats rooms – a new best practice.

Coalition for Tulsa Pets is established to combine efforts of Tulsa Animal Welfare, Humane Society of Tulsa and the Tulsa SPCA in an effort to increase the region’s live release rate. Coalition receives $715,000 grant from WaterShed Animal Fund.

Construction begins for new 7,000 sq. ft. clinic. It is scheduled to open Summer 2019.

🐶 Meet Sky, Tallulah & Merle 🐶 these three amazing pups have been busy during their time at the Tulsa SPCA, but somehow they keep getting overlooked by visitors. Let's change that! These sweeties are ready to go home and become part of a loving family. 💜

🌟 Sky

Sky is a loyal and active companion who:

✔️ Loves daily pack walks and has made friends on playdates
✔️ Is mastering crate training
✔️ Enjoys meals in her slow feeder
✔️ Loves being close to her humans

🌟 Tallulah

Tallulah is an absolute sweetheart who:

✔️ Always greet you with love and charm
✔️ Looks beautifully on leash
✔️ Loves playing fetch (she's very ball-motivated)
✔️ Knows how to sit and with driving a home where she can play and relax with her favorite people.

🌟 Merle

Merle is a gentle soul who:

✔️ Maybe a little shy at first but warms up quickly (especially with spray cheese!)
✔️ Enjoys pack walks, playing with stuffies, and has even gone on a mile run!
✔️ Would thrive in a patient and understanding home where he can truly come out of his shell

💓 Each one of these pups is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, on parasite prevention and microchipped.
