What Your Pet’s Name Says About Them
July 12, 2023Don’t Let Your Pet Live with Pain
September 14, 2023For many of us, our pets are celebrated just as much as the humans in our family, and birthdays are no exception. The Daily Express says that statistically, “70 percent of owners celebrate their dog’s birthday every year.” While many people know the exact day their pet was born, others do not, especially if they were found as a stray or adopted. So, how do we celebrate a dog’s birthday if we don’t know what day it really is? DOGust, or the 1st of August, is a day dedicated to dogs whose birthdays are unknown. For those who are unsure about their dog’s birthday, and want to join in some good old-fashioned comradery, this is the day for you. Some people even extend this to the entire month of August, choosing another day in the month to coin their dog’s birthday. In short, if you have adopted a dog from a shelter or rescue organization and do not know their actual birthday, this holiday has got you covered. And don’t worry cat lovers, we haven’t forgotten about you! DOGust is for cats too, and August 8th is International Cat Day. So, what are you waiting for, let’s get the PAW-TY started! In addition to DOGust, this month also happens to be National Wellness Month. Time can just seem to fly by so fast, and everyone needs a moment to prioritize their well-being. There are so many different factors in life that can cause high stress. From family to health to finances, stress is an inevitable part of life. However, we can learn to control it. Here are four aspects of self-care that can help you live your best life!
- Good Sleep (7 hours minimum for ages 18-60): The CDC estimates 1 in 3 adults do not get enough sleep. Take a cue from your pets—get some shut-eye!
- Exercise: Go for a run, ride a bike, lift weights, take a swim, or join a softball league. Furthermore, studies show getting enough sunlight is associated with elevating your mood.
- Healthy Eating: Food is medicine. Many of us buy top quality food for our pets, but neglect our own eating habits. High-fiber foods such as oatmeal, fruits, and vegetables are known to reduce stress.
- Pet ownership: Studies show owning a pet can improve mood, alleviate depression and loneliness, and even extend your life!
And there you have it! We hope you and your canine friends are able to have a wonderful month, and hey—if nothing else, fall is on the horizon.
