Community Programs

Bringing Comfort, Connection, and Canine Companionship to the Community

PAL Program

Since the 1990s, the Tulsa SPCA has proudly offered the Pets Are Love (PAL) program—an emotional therapy outreach initiative that promotes wellness and connection for both people and animals.

Through carefully supervised visits to healthcare facilities, memory care centers, schools, and high-stress workplaces, our PAL program facilitates meaningful interactions between trained Tulsa SPCA shelter dogs and members of the community. These visits are designed to provide emotional comfort, reduce stress, and support the mental and social well-being of participants.

Scientific research has shown the powerful impact of animal-assisted interactions, including reduced blood pressure, improved mood, increased socialization, and enhanced overall health outcomes. Whether it’s a quiet moment with a senior in memory care or bringing smiles to students during exam week, PAL visits create lasting, therapeutic experiences.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Participating in PAL also provides enrichment and relief for our shelter dogs. These structured outings allow them to de-stress, build confidence, and showcase their personalities outside the shelter—improving their chances for adoption and overall quality of life.

The PAL program is a win-win, enriching lives, building community connections, and furthering the Tulsa SPCA’s mission to improve the lives of both people and pets.
